FORT BENNING, Ga. (CBS46) – Two Fort Benning troopers died Tuesday in what Military officers name a weather-related incident.
In response to the U.S. Military Maneuver Middle of Excellence the incident occurred at Yonah Mountain close to Dahlonega.
Three different service members have been injured and brought to the hospital, in line with the U.S. Military Maneuver Middle of Excellence .
“It’s with a heavy coronary heart that we announce the loss of life of 2nd Lt. Evan Fitzgibbon and Workers Sgt. George Taber,” Military officers stated in a information launch.
Officers verify that in a Ranger Faculty weather-induced coaching occasion on August 9 at Yonah Mountain close to Dahlonega, Ga., 5 Ranger candidates have been struck by a falling tree.
Fitzgibbon and Taber died on the hospital. Three different candidates have been injured within the incident. Two have been handled for non-life threatening accidents and one stays secure underneath medical care.
Fitzgibbon was an Infantry officer assigned to the Infantry Primary Officer Chief Course, 199th Infantry “Chief Brigade” at Fort Benning, Ga. He was a graduate of West Level – The U.S. Navy Academy and commissioned in Might 2021.
Taber was a Particular Forces Medical Sergeant assigned to the The seventh Particular Forces Group, Eglin Air Power Base, Fla. He had served within the Military since his enlistment in March 2017.
